Special Picture # 169 – The Trumbull House @ 1928

Both of these pictures – along with two others – are printed from glass negatives. I’m amazed that they have survived for almost 90 years and that the pictures are so clear. Any idea where your digital photos will be in 87 years?

  1. Mrs. P says:

Do you still have the glass negatives?

  2. Janet says:

    When was the house built?

Janet – If you look at the picture of the view of the front, up the long set of stairs, you are looking at the oldest section of the house. In the second picture, it is the section all the way to the left. This section was built in 1756 by Oliver Hawley and given, as wedding gift, to his son, Daniel Hawley and his new bride, Phebe Mallett. You can see the house in a more recent picture and read the family history of Daniel Hawley – and Nero Hawley – a black slave who served during the revolution and won his freedom – it is also said that he haunts the oldest section of the house, the room I slept in for about two uears – at http://www.dmarlin.com/hawley/members/daniel.html
